Allocation of places for practical semester with preparatory training (FAQ)

Here you will find frequently asked questions about the allocation of places for practical semesters with preparatory training and the corresponding answers.

The failure of your registration in PVP may be due to two reasons:

  1. The BITS username/password combination you entered is incorrect. Please contact the consulting and support team at the BITS in contact. You usually need the password that was assigned to you on your Leporello.
  2. You are not (yet) authorized for registration in PVP. This may be because you have not yet changed of programme to Master of Education, or because you have already changed of programme but have not yet been approved in the electronic course catalogue (ekvv) for admission to PVP, or because you have not registered for VPS courses by the deadline and have therefore not been allocated a seminar place in all your subjects and in educational sciences. Please contact praxissemester@uni-bielefeld.de.

No, it is not possible to independently search for a school outside of the place allocation procedure in the web portal due to the complexity of the procedure. The Detmold district government posts the schools available for the respective practical semester with preparatory training in the web portal.

In the web portal for the allocation of places for practical semester with preparatory training (PVP), you must actively exclude those schools that you yourself attended as a pupil. You may not carry out your practical semester with preparatory training at these pupils. This also applies to schools that are part of a school association or a group of schools; in this case, you must exclude the association if you were a pupil at one of the schools in the association.
Schools at which you have already completed internships or similar are not affected by this rule.

We strongly recommend that you do not include in your wish list those schools where relatives/relatives of yours teach or teach themselves. Very many schools consider such a situation to be extremely problematic in terms of confidentiality, etc. This can be associated with disadvantages for you. In the worst case, the school will not want to train you after the final assignment is announced. A new internship school would have to be found in the short term. The places that will then still be available may no longer be at the schools that you prioritized for your choice.
With a view to your professional development, it should be in your own interest to choose a school at which you are perceived as a prospective teacher and not as a "sister, niece, brother, nephew, uncle, daughter, son, etc.".

For the practical semester with preparatory training at Bielefeld University, only schools in the area of responsibility of the centers for practical teacher training (ZfsL) Bielefeld and Minden are available. These are schools in the cities and districts of Bielefeld, Gütersloh, Herford and Minden-Lübbecke.

Despite the overall responsibility for the practical semester, the university has no influence on the design of the training region and the internship places available in it (see circular Praxiselemente of the Ministry of School and Further Education of 28 June 2012 (in the version of 08.12.2017).

No, the allocation of an internship school takes place exclusively within the Allocation procedure in the web portal. However, you can add this school to your list of preferred schools and prioritize it accordingly. However, there is no guarantee that you will be assigned to this school due to the distribution parameters (including subject capacities of the ZfsL, optimal solution for all requests).

In addition, it must be ensured during the practical semester that your other (paid) work at the school does not mix with the specific tasks and activities as well as the attendance times during the practical semester. There must be a clear separation between your job and the practical semester with preparatory training.

No, the school decides on the assignment according to the respective possibilities.

Each seminar of the ZfsL Bielefeld and Minden supervises only a limited number of students during the practical semester. The total capacity of a seminar in terms of student intake as well as the capacity per subject is determined by the district government for the respective practical semester with preparatory training. Since the schools are assigned to the corresponding seminars in the web portal, the seminar capacity in the distribution also determines the number of available internship places in the area of responsibility of the respective seminar.

However, this does not mean that you will not get a placement for the practical semester with preparatory training at all. The district governments have made a commitment to the universities to provide sufficient places for each practical semester with preparatory training. However, it may result in you being assigned to a school in the jurisdiction of the second ZfsL that you prioritized lower or not at all due to seminar capacity.

When compiling your wish list, you should therefore make sure that you choose schools from the area of responsibility of the ZfsL Bielefeld and Minden. Students with the teaching degree HRGe are excluded, as there is only one seminar here.

No, you need a very current extended certificate of good conduct, which must be applied for the respective internship semester. When you are assigned a place via PVP, you will automatically receive a PDF file containing a written request from the relevant ZfsL to apply for the certificate of good conduct. The extended certificate of good conduct will be automatically sent to the ZfsL responsible for you after your application.
